Danny Healy-Rae says roads access more important than slug

23 Jun

Delays to construction of a roads project into Kerry due to environmental concerns are unacceptable according to Cllr Danny Healy-Rae. The work on the long awaited Macroom to Ballyvourney relief road, is being held up due to the rare spotted slug, a species found only in South Kerry, West Cork and the northern tip of the Iberian Peninsula.

A judicial review is being carried out because of environmental concerns that roadworks might negatively affect the snail. Cllr Healy-Rae said people’s ability to access the county is more important than the protection of a snail.
