Jack O’Connor targets victory against Derry

4 Mar

Kerry boss Jack O’Connor wants his side to get back to winning ways starting with their Allianz NFL Division 1 encounter against Derry at Tralee on Sunday. The Kingdom have lost their opening two games in the top flight against Dublin and Cork and are now set to welcome the side whom they defeated in last year’s final.

O’Connor told The Kingdom newspaper this week:

‘Winning is a habit and losing can also become a habit so we want to get back to winning ways as fast as we can.

We would be hoping now that we could pick it up against Derry but they are a fine side. They beat Tyrone in the first round this year so that’s an indication of where they are at.

If you look at their game against them last year, there was noting between the teams up in Bellaghy and we just came out of it with a few points to spare. We are looking to improve. We have trained well in the three weeks since the Cork game and hopefully that will show in our performance.’

O’Connor has received some welcome boosts ahead of this Sunday meeting with Oak Leafers, with big names such as Colm Cooper, Tom O’Sullivan, Darran O’Sullivan and team captain Bryan Sheehan all now back in training with the squad. However Paul Galvin will miss the next eight weeks following his disciplinary hearing after being sent off against Cork.
