The number of people in Kerry driving while on a mobile phone has increased by 55% in the past year.
Figures from Road Safety Authority show that in July, 1,824 people were issued with penalty points for holding a phone while behind the wheel.
That’s an increase of 648 on the same time last year, for the offence which carries 2 penalty points.
Meanwhile there’s been a drop in the number of new cars registered in Kerry.
Official figures from the Society of the Irish Motor Industry show there were 49 new car registrations in August, down from 103 the same time last year.
