Tenders sought for new operators for Killarney Sports & Leisure Centre

Tenders are being sought for new operators for Killarney Sports & Leisure Centre. Killarney Town Council is looking for an experienced company to take over the running of the troubled leisure centre. The process began when Aura announced its intention to withdraw from the facility earlier this month.

Killarney Town Clerk Michael O’Leary says it has always been their intention to keep the centre open and they are looking at facilitating the smooth handover to a new operator. A statement from the council also says that it has received calls from parties interested in taking over the facility since Aura announced its withdrawel.

Aura, which had been managing Killarney Sports and Leisure Centre on a five year lease, cited difficult trading conditions and the council’s refusal to underwrite extra losses as its reason for pulling out at the end of September. It’s also understood there were difficulties in meeting the high cost of running the pool, while the dry facility is said to be self sufficient. 25 people work at the leisure centre. The town council has reiterated that the Aura will remain open
