People with second homes in Kerry warned about new levy

15 Aug

People with second houses which they don’t live in are being urged to check if they will be faced with a new levy. The 200 euro residential property charge was brought into law on July 31st last following the Budget earlier this year. It can be paid online or at the Kerry County Council Offices in Tralee. Those who do not pay the charges will face a fine and a possible court appearance. Head of Communications with Kerry County Council Padraig Corkery describes some of the properties which are exempt from the charge:

Meanwhile, Kerry County Council says it has no intention to copy Limerick County Council plan of placing a community charge on council tenants. It’s in a bid to raise funds for the council which is facing a financial crisis due to falling rates.
