Bodhrans reverberated in the limelight in Milltown on Saturday at the launch of the 2009 World Bodhrán Championships Festival. Details of the fourth annual festival, which will be held in June, were unveiled by the Ceann Comhairle, John O’Donoghue as well as representatives of the event’s main sponsors, Fáilte Ireland, Kerry County Council and Comhaltas.
Artists Liam Ó Maonlaí and Ronán Ó Snodaigh – who will perform in concert in Killorglin next weekend to raise funds for the festival – also took centre stage for a special performance.
Organisers are expecting more than 100 competitors to take part in the competitions over the June holiday weekend, culminating in the crowning of the 2009 World Bodhrán Champion live on the gig rig on the Sunday night. A strong international entry is expected with entries already received from Germany, France, the UK and the US.
