KGH is 10 percent above HSE staff limit

5 May

Kerry General Hospital has staff levels 10 percent above its HSE limit. That is the biggest breach of HSE staff ceilings for any hospital in the whole country. The figures are contained in the latest Health Stat report from the HSE for February. Overall Kerry General Hospital remains in the average category with room for improvement along with all but two of the country’s public hospitals.

Kerry General’s use of resources is still described as unsatisfactory and in need of urgent attention. The hospital ran over budget by 477 thousand euro in February spending over 13 point 1 million euro in the first two months of the year. Not only does Kerry General have excessive staff levels by HSE standards but the Executive has also highlighted high levels of staff absenteeism. Nurses at the hospital recorded double the acceptable level of time lost to sickness at around 7 percent. Waiting times for children and consultant led clinics are also highlighted as in need of attention.
