The coldest February day in 40 years was recorded at Valentia Observatory on the 2nd of the month. According to Met Eireann it was minus 8.8 degrees at the Kerry station, the lowest since February 1969. However Valentia also recorded the highest average temperature throughout the country for February, it was 7 degrees. While sunshine totals were below normal nationwide, Valentia was an exception with 68 hours of sunshine being logged.
