Calls for new bridge and bypass in Killorglin

25 Nov
Calls have been made for a new bridge and bypass for Killorglin. Fianna Fail Councillors Michael Cahill and Paul O’Donoghue have asked Kerry County Council to carry out a feasibility study and fund the projects. Kerry County Council is to request a meeting with the National Roads Authority and the Minister for Transport, Noel Dempsey. The Council says the Killorglin Local Area Plan is designed to promote the development of a By-Pass and prohibit the development of land on a suggested by-pass route.

It is also an objective of the Draft Kerry County Development Plan to construct a new National Secondary Route from the N70 to the N72 in the town. However the funding of the route development will depend on either grant aid from the NRA and /or the adoption of a development contribution scheme by the council. The roads department has begun a preliminary design on a preferred route for the by-pass, including a new crossing of the River Laune
