Major clean-up operation underway in Kenmare

28 Oct

A major clean-up operation is underway in Kenmare following yesterday’s devastating flooding. It’s estimated to have caused tens-of-thousands of euro worth of damage. The town was completely cut off as the River Finnihy burst its banks after heavy down pours caused water to rise up to four feet in the town. A number of elderly people on Bridge Street had to be evacuated from their homes and many businesses were forced to close.

Today roads across the county, which were impassable due to flooding, have returned to normal. All approach roads to Kenmare have now reopened. President of the Kenmare Chamber of Commerce, Donald Lynch says the town is now beginning to count the cost of the damage.
