Planning decision on Killarney shopping centre deferred

31 Aug

Killarney Town Council has deferred for six months a decision on a planning application for a multi million euro town centre development. Planning officials are seeking further information from the developers before they grant permission for the project earmarked for a 14 acre site surrounding the Malton Hotel. The development which promises to create up to 700 jobs is being undertaken by BL Beara and Sundays Well Development.

In April plans for the proposed 18,000 square metre shopping centre, a new hotel block, an underground car park, an eight screen cinema, a courthouse and a 100 metre viewing tower went on display to the public. Killarney Town Council officials are seeking a visual impact statement, an urban design statement and an architectural heritage assessment before they make a decision, due in the New Year.

I thought that they dropped the 8 screen cinema from the development, especially as there is an existing 5 screen cinema next door to where the development will be built?
