Minister for Labour Affairs and Clare TD, Tony Killeen says having neither landline nor mobile phone coverage in an area is unacceptable. This follows Monday’s work place accident at Moll’s Gap where a Kerry County Council worker died. Killarney Garda Superintendent, Michael Maher said poor landline and mobile phone coverage hampered the emergency operation.
The landline service in the Black Valley is in need of an upgrade but Eircom says it’d be too costly to do so. Vodafone was granted planning permission last year for a mast in the area, but it hasn’t yet been constructed. Minister Killeen says communication plays a major role at the scene of an accident.
